Governor extends protections against post-wildfire price-gouging

Gov. Jerry Brown signed an executive order Friday extending post-wildfire price gouging protections for Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Solano, and Sonoma counties through Dec. 4.

Brown’s previous order, which made it a crime to increase prices for lodging, food, medical products or building supplies by more than 10 percent in California after an emergency is declared, was set to expire Wednesday.

“As we recover, we have to make sure victims of this terrible tragedy are not taken advantage of,” Senator Bill Dodd, D-Napa, said in a statement. “Price-gouging in communities impacted by the wildfire is not acceptable.”

Brown also extended protections for displaced residents in Southern California by suspending planning and zoning requirements for manufactured homes and mobilehome parks.
