Stabbing at Santa Rosa park, one arrested

Santa Rosa police arrested a man suspected of stabbing another man during an altercation Sunday at a city park.|

Santa Rosa police arrested a man suspected of stabbing another man during an altercation Sunday evening at a southwest city park.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of a stab wound. He is expected to survive, police said.

Police were called to Southwest Community Park on Hearn Avenue about 5:20 p.m. and found the injured man. The suspect had fled north, according to witnesses.

Officers began a search, recruiting Sonoma County sheriff's deputies and the sheriff's helicopter. Francisco Lopez‑Ibanez, 33, of Santa Rosa was found hiding under a piece of plywood near a home on Westwood Drive. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Sonoma County Jail. Bail was set at $30,000.
