Two homeless men arrested in connection with two unrelated stabbings on the Joe Rodota Trail in Santa Rosa were released this week after the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges.

“There was not enough evidence in each case,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Brian Staebell said Wednesday.

Benny Frank Gonzales, 46, had been arrested after a May 24 stabbing near a small homeless encampment in the area of North Wright and Sebastopol roads.

Robert James Glosser, 38, was arrested on suspicion of committing an April 24 stabbing that occurred on the trail about 2 miles to the west of Dutton Avenue.

The two people stabbed both survived. In at least one of the cases, the victim was uncooperative with investigators, police said.
