SAN FRANCISCO - Nearly 60 tenants-rights activists blocked commuter tech buses in San Francisco's Mission District with motorized scooters, claiming that city officials treat "shared" scooters better than homeless.

The San Francisco Examiner reports that protesters Thursday morning piled more than a dozen of the controversial e-scooters at an intersection and blocked at least nine bulky buses headed for Silicon Valley campuses.

The protest came as Mayor Mark Farrell finished sweeping homeless tent camps from the neighborhood known for its historic Latino culture and popularity with employees of Google, Facebook and other tech companies.

Protesters decried the "techsploitation" of San Francisco and held up signs that read "your disruption is our displacement."

Several tech companies started dumping e-scooters on sidewalks in April without city permission and despite city officials' complaints about sidewalk safety.
