A Santa Rosa felon remained Wednesday in Sonoma County Jail after police said they found him with a rifle.

Randolph Smith, 57, was in a recreational vehicle parked on Corporate Center Parkway when officers received a report the man was acting “bizarre” and making suicidal statements, Santa Rosa police Sgt. Dan Marincik said in a news release. He said the caller also told police Smith, who’s homeless, was known to have a rifle.

Officers suspected Smith was under the influence of drugs. A search of his car parked near the RV turned up a semi-automatic rifle and a small amount of drugs, Marincik said.

Police arrested Smith on suspicion of being a felon with a gun and ammunition, as well as possessing drugs while armed. He’s being held in jail on $30,000 bail.
