Sheriff’s detectives suspect Ubaldo Davila Ramirez, 23, shot his father and brother. Ubaldo Ramirez remained in custody Tuesday in the Mendocino County Jail with bail set at $1.6 million.

He was arrested on suspicion of homicide and attempted homicide, but with his brother’s death, prosecutors were expected to adjust the charges to two counts of homicide.

Deputies, firefighters and CHP officers were called to a possible crash and gunshot victim July 2 about 4:40 p.m. near the Mendocino County community of Golden Rule.

They found a maroon Chevrolet Silverado stopped in a traffic lane with two men inside, one dead and one critically injured, according to officials.

Ubaldo Ramirez became a suspect early in the investigation. Deputies arrested him about 1:30 a.m. on ?July 3 in a parking lot north of Covelo after getting tips about his location, according to sheriff’s officials. At the time he was taken into custody, he also was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs, making an illegal entry and driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s officials have released no further details on a motive or how the shooting occurred.
