A Santa Rosa man was arrested early Wednesday after officers found a loaded, stolen handgun in his vehicle during a traffic stop, authorities said
Bryan Gonzalez Mendoza, 23, was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of seven crimes, including possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon, possessing stolen property and providing a false identification to a police officer, Santa Rosa police said in a statement. Mendoza also had two felony warrants, police said.
Just after 12:40 a.m., an officer spotted a vehicle playing “extremely loud” music while speeding in the area of Stony Point and Sebastopol roads. The driver, later identified as Mendoza, initially provided officers a false name, but later was found to have outstanding warrants, police said.
Officers found inside the vehicle opened marijuana containers and the loaded semi-automatic handgun in a bag on the back floorboard, police said. The gun was reported stolen from a Santa Rosa commercial storage facility earlier this year.
