SAN FRANCISCO — A man whose car was stolen with his wife's ashes inside can rest easy now that the vehicle — and the remains — have been found.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1ABfCKm ) that 68-year-old Phil Hollenbeck, of Taos, New Mexico, had been traveling to Oregon to fulfill his wife's last wish to have her ashes scattered into the Pacific Ocean when thieves took the car last Tuesday.

A police officer found the Honda Civic on Monday with the small bag with her ashes, her walking stick and a pillow she had quilted for her husband in the trunk.

Hollenbeck's wife, Amy Tomson, died of cancer in January. He says he is delaying is trip in hopes the other stolen items turn up.
