Bay Area woman accidentally kills husband with car

MARTINEZ — Officials in the San Francisco Bay Area say an elderly woman behind the wheel of a car accidentally hit and killed her husband after hitting the accelerator instead of the brake pedal.

KGO-TV reports (http://abc7ne.ws/1DQEzTQ ) 84-year-old Yvonne Cottrell was trying to re-position the car with her husband in front of it giving her instructions when the accident happened.

California Highway Patrol Sgt. Greg Xepoleas says 90-year-old Glen Cottrell was run over and pinned beneath the car. He died later at a hospital.

The vehicle went through the back wall of their garage and into the backyard before stopping in front of a pile of pipes and scrap metal.

Xepoleas says the accident is under investigation but drugs and alcohol don't appear to be a factor.
