OAKLAND - Oakland city employees are returning to work after a seven-day walkout during contract talks.

Many stalled services were resuming Tuesday. Felipe Cuevas of the local public-employees chapter tells the East Bay Times newspaper that a contract deal has yet to be reached but workers are more satisfied now with the talks.

More than 3,000 city workers have been off work since Dec. 5, disrupting programs for seniors and children and other services. Disputed issues include wages and working conditions.

Businesswoman Caitlyn Schleifer is one of many complaining about disrupted services, telling broadcaster KGO she needs final city inspections to open her new pet store.
