DUBLIN - A San Francisco Bay Area sheriff's deputy has been charged with a felony for allegedly orchestrating the attack of one jail inmate by a group of others.

Alameda County Sheriff Greg Ahearn announced Wednesday that 28-year-old Joseph Bailey has been charged with one count of felony assault.

Bailey was placed on leave after the Santa Rita Jail inmate was assaulted on Oct. 24 in Dublin. Jail records don't show if Bailey is represented by an attorney. The Deputy Sheriff Association of Alameda County didn't return a call.

The assault occurred in a minimum security section of the jail. The sheriff says he believes the incident is an isolated one.

Four deputies were arrested last year and charged with unrelated mistreatment of inmates.
