APTOS - Authorities say four teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of beating three teen boys with hammers while they slept in a Northern California garage, leaving two of them with major head injuries.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday it has arrested four teenage boys in the May 28 attack. It says investigators believe the teenagers were trying to steal marijuana and cash.

It says a 17-year-old boy has not recovered from his injuries.

The office says it has arrested a 15-year-old and three 16-year-olds in the past two months.

One of the boys faces attempted murder charges, and another faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. All four boys were arrested on charges of burglary, robbery, and conspiracy.

Their names will not be released because they are minors.
