Fire seriously damaged a vacation rental home in Fort Bragg early Monday morning.

The fire, reported just after 2 a.m., burned the west side and roof of the two-story home on Neptune Avenue, said Fort Bragg Fire Chief Steve Orsi. He did not have an estimate of the cost of the damage but said it was “significant.”

No one was injured in the fire and the vacationers staying there moved to a hotel, Orsi said.

The fire appears to have started outside on a small, second-story balcony, he said.

“We’re pretty sure of the area of the origin but we’re not sure why it started there,” Orsi said.

He said the fire did not appear suspicious.
