Sonoma, Marin County bus transit affected by sick calls

Golden Gate Transit had to cancel commuter buses from Sonoma County to San Francisco on Friday morning because of an unexpected number of drivers calling in sick.

Transit district spokeswoman Priya Clemens said 13 trips were canceled on bus routes originating in Santa Rosa or Marin County. The cancellations came on a day when a ferry workers’ strike shut down all Golden Gate Transit commuter ferry service from the North Bay.

Clemens said the bus drivers did not declare a sickout in solidarity with the ferry workers, but the “unusually high” number drivers calling in sick disrupted bus service. Of the 260 total Golden Gate drivers, 12 called in sick starting Thursday evening, Clemens said.

Another seven bus trips were canceled Friday evening, she said.
