Santa Rosa mom arrested, sons injured in suspected DUI crash

A crash into a pole off Santa Rosa Avenue on Tuesday sent two children to the hospital, and officers arrested the driver, their mother, suspecting she was under the influence of drugs, Santa Rosa police said.

Initial reports indicated no one in the Ford F-150 had been wearing seat belts and the boys, ages 8 and 10, suffered significant facial injuries.

Officers arrested Christina Curtis, 29, of Santa Rosa on suspicion of felony DUI causing great bodily injury, two counts of felony child endangerment and possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. She was driving with a suspended license and had violated her probation, police said.

At about 4:40 p.m., Curtis was driving on First Street across Santa Rosa Avenue when she lost control of the truck and hit a traffic signal pole, according to the investigation.

Unrestrained, the boys were thrown forward in the crash, police said.

They were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where the 8-year-old was being treated for blunt force trauma. His older brother had more significant facial injuries and was flown to another Bay Area hospital for specialized treatment, police said.

Curtis had minor injuries from the crash and was given medical treatment before being booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

Her bail was set at $50,000 for the suspected DUI, but Curtis was being held without bail due to the probation violation.
