Napa crash closes Silverado Trail, knocks out power

Part of the road was shut on Tuesday for close to 12 hours due to the wreck. It was reopened at 6 p.m.|

A Chevy SUV ran into a high-voltage power pole in Napa early Tuesday morning, closing a section of Silverado Trail and knocking out power to hundreds of residents in the southeast portion of the city.

The crash, which happened shortly before 6 a.m., took place at Silverado Trail and Hennessy Drive near the Napa County fairgrounds. Silverado Trail, from Third Street to Sousa Lane, was closed for about 12 hours as PG&E crews repaired the high voltage distribution and transmission lines brought down with the pole, police said. The road was reopened at about 6 p.m.

It happened when the driver of the Chevy, headed south, allowed his car to drift to the right and ram into the pole, said Capt. Jeff Troendly. The impact brought the pole down and split it in half, he said. The driver and passenger received minor injuries and were treated and released at the scene of the crash. Police don’t suspect that alcohol was a factor.
