Downtown Santa Rosa crash injures two

Two vehicles collided Wednesday morning in downtown Santa Rosa, blocking an intersection and sending two people to a hospital.

At 8:40 a.m. a Honda sedan driver turned from Third Street onto D Street in front of an approaching eastbound Nissan pickup when the two crashed, said Santa Rosa police Sgt. Summer Black.

The intersection’s traffic lights don’t have a green arrow indicating right-of-way on turns, requiring the sedan driver to yield to the pickup, Black said.

“The light was green. I didn’t even see them,” said Honda driver David Shively of Santa Rosa. After the crash he remained at the corner, sitting in the rain as Santa Rosa police officers gathered information.

Shively’s Honda sedan had major front end damage.

The Nissan driver, Juan Carlos Magana, 36, of Santa Rosa, and a female passenger were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital to check for injuries.
