Casa Grande High School teacher featured on Japanese TV

A camera crew busy in Petaluma is shooting and interviewing for a Japanese news-magazine story about Casa Grande High teacher Tom Furrer's ambitious creek-restoration and fish hatchery project.

Production coordinator Kenji Hayasaki said from alongside the revived Adobe Creek the story will look at what can happen when someone inspires others - in this case, many others - to act on behalf of a better world.

"Tom is a leading character, of course," Hayasaki said.

The Petalumans already are well known in Japan because a tale of their United Anglers of Casa Grande appears in English textbooks there.

The crew also has interviewed current and former students of Furrer. One is Anna Kastner, who's gone on to manage the huge Feather River Fish Hatchery.
