A Forestville man suspected of killing his younger brother Friday shot him multiple times with a .223-caliber rifle, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

Shaun Gallon, 38, shot at Shamus Gallon, 36, during a confrontation in the living room of the family’s River Road home, sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Crum said Monday.

There was no apparent conflict prior to the shooting and detectives Monday still were attempting to determine a motive.

“It doesn’t seem like there was an argument,” Crum said. “We don’t know the longstanding history between the two brothers.”

The close-range shooting happened about 7:15 p.m. Their mother was home at the time but not in the room. Afterward she called for help, reporting one son wounded from gunfire and her other son leaving in a van, armed with a rifle.

Deputies arrested Gallon in Guerneville, not long after the shooting. In the van they found an AR-15-style rifle they believe Shaun Gallon assembled from various individually purchased parts, Crum said.

Shaun Gallon on Monday remained in the Sonoma County Jail, held without bail. He was being kept in a mental health cell where he was under watch in case of any possibility of violence, Crum said.

The suspect will be in court today for arraignment on three felony charges: murder, possessing an assault rifle and being a felon with a weapon.

An autopsy will be conducted today on his brother. Detectives Monday afternoon said the victim had been shot multiple times but declined to provide further details, including where he’d been struck.

Sheriff’s deputies have had 13 contacts with Shaun Gallon since 2003. The calls included misdemeanor issues involving trespassing and suspected drunken driving as well as felonies, including an arrest in a 2009 that led to his conviction for assault with a deadly weapon for shooting a homemade arrow at two men in a vehicle.
