A 22-year-old suspected gang member wanted in connection with a stabbing attack Tuesday afternoon outside the Healdsburg Community Center was arrested early Friday evening in Santa Rosa, Healdsburg police said.

Luis Enrique Gonzalez of Healdsburg was taken into custody without incident at about 5:30 p.m. with the help of Santa Rosa police and taken to Sonoma County Jail, where he was booked on assault with a deadly weapon.

Gonzalez is suspected of stabbing a 23-year-old man - also thought to be a gang member - in the arm sometime before 4 p.m. outside the Healdsburg Avenue community center while an after-school program was in session. Police said that none of the 130 children participating in the program was exposed to the violence, and neither of the men were involved with the community center or its activities.

The incident prompted the center’s lockdown as police carried out an intensive search for the suspect. Police also searched the residence where Gonzalez lived, at Oak Grove Apartments in the 1500 block of Grove Street, going door-to-door asking neighbors for the suspect’s possible whereabouts.

Officers handed out fliers with his description. Police did not say Friday what led to their apprehension of the suspect at a residence in Santa Rosa.

No other information was available Friday evening.

The victim in the stabbing, also a resident of Oak Grove Apartments, was treated at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, and his injury was not life threatening, police said.
