Ukiah police on Saturday were investigating the shooting of a 38-year-old man in a residential street, but released scant details.

Officials said a community service officer who was dispatched to the ?800 block of Cindee Drive on a report of a traffic accident heard four to five gunshots “very nearby” and radioed for assistance.

On Cindee Drive, near the intersection of South Orchard Avenue, officers located the victim in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They also found evidence that he had been shot in the street, according to a ?news release.

The officers provided first aid to the man, and he was taken to an air ambulance then flown to an undisclosed major trauma center outside of Mendocino County.

Police said they are looking into whether the incident was gang-related.

A police supervisor was unable to provide further details Saturday night other than to describe the southeast Ukiah neighborhood next to Highway 101 as newer and working-class with a mix of single- and multifamily dwellings. Anyone with information regarding the ?shooting is being asked to call the detective division at 707-463-6262.
