A fire continues burning Wednesday in a rambling redwood building in Fort Bragg housing a seafood restaurant, apartments and an art gallery, fire officials said.

The fire was first reported at 12:34 p.m., according to Cal Fire. Firefighters from Fort Bragg, Mendocino and Cal Fire continued to fight the fire through the afternoon, said Fort Bragg Fire Marshal Steve Wells.

The building, located on the north end of Main Street along the railroad tracks, is nearly 100 years old, he said. The walls of the one-time meat packing facility were filled with redwood bark for insulation, increasing its flammability, Wells said.

The building currently houses the Café del Mar, some residences and retail stores, he said.

Wells said he did not know the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
