Santa Rosa police arrested a teenager Tuesday afternoon with a realistic looking BB gun after a resident reported hearing him ranting about wanting to kill someone.

The 16-year-old boy was taken into custody with a replica revolver, the anti-anxiety prescription medication Xanex, concentrated marijuana and marijuana, Sgt. Dan Hackett said.

The incident began when a passerby saw the boy in the parking lot of the Montecito Shopping Center in east Santa Rosa with what looked like a gun and heard him yelling about shooting someone who had stolen something from him, Hackett said.

When police arrived and contacted him, the boy moved his hand into his pocket, and officers quickly took him to the ground and into custody without further incident, Hackett said. He had a BB gun designed to look like a revolver, Hackett said.

The boy was taken to Sonoma County Juvenile Hall and held on suspicion of a number of violations, including possessing a prescription medication for sale. His name was not released.
