Suspected Petaluma burglar lands back in jail two days after release

A Santa Rosa man out of jail two days was back briefly after his arrest late Sunday morning in east Petaluma involving suspected theft, according to Petaluma police.

Kyle Timothy Summers, 24, is suspected of stealing headphones, earbuds and a charger from an AT&T store on North McDowell Boulevard, Petaluma Police Sgt. Lance Novello said.

Bystanders flagged down an officer in the 1300 block of the boulevard about 11:40 a.m., reporting a suspicious man carrying boxes of electronics. That was about the time officers were called to the nearby store regarding a theft.

Officers spotted and chased the suspect, who ran into Kohl’s department store. Several officers took him into custody, Novello said.

Summers was arrested on suspicion of two counts of retail burglary plus resisting arrest. He was booked Sunday afternoon into the Sonoma County Jail in lieu of $3,500 bail and released after posting bail.

He had been in custody last week and released from jail Friday after posting bail involving a felony vandalism case, according to police.

The stolen items, worth $370, were returned to the store, Novello said.
