Mendocino County sheriff’s officers Tuesday were investigating the suspicious death of a 60-year-old woman in Caspar, a rural community located between Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

Deputies were dispatched just after 11 a.m. Tuesday to a residence where a man reported his wife shot dead, and her car missing from their home in a forested area about 3 miles east of Highway 1 in the 42000 block of Caspar Little Lake Road.

Sheriff’s officials are searching for a blue 2009 Chevy HHR with a gold hood medallion and the side marked with “American Repair Co.”

The vehicle’s California license plate number is 6JWT270. Sheriff’s officials ask that anyone spotting the vehicle call the sheriff’s dispatch at 707-463-4086.

American Repair Co. is a marine motor repair and boat supply shop based in Fort Bragg and belongs to Steve and Jamie Shipman. Their home address is the same one provided to emergency personnel responding to the Tuesday morning call. No one answered the phone at the business late Tuesday afternoon.
