An 82-year-old Eldorado County man died Sunday after he drove off Highway 121 in Napa County and hit a tree, according to the CHP.

About 12:30 p.m. John Scott Eggenberger of Shingle Springs was driving west of Napa on the Sonoma-Napa county connector route when his 2006 Toyota Solara left the road, traveled down an embankment and hit the tree.

The car landed in a field at the base of the embankment where he was found dead. The CHP said alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor. The crash, which happened just south of Haire Lane, remains under investigation.
