Fire burns Santa Rosa trucking company trailers

“It lit up the night sky,” said Santa Rosa fire Battalion Chief Mark Basque.|

A fire at a trucking company property in Roseland early Monday caused serious damage to multiple vehicles, according to a Santa Rosa fire official.

Firefighters initially were sent to Roseland Avenue near the Joe Rodota trail about 2 a.m. Monday for a vegetation fire. That quickly changed to a fire involving burning structures at S S Skikos Trucking Inc., Santa Rosa fire Battalion Chief Mark Basque said.

Firefighters found four, 40-foot trailer containers on fire, trees torching and two cars burning.

The fire appeared to have started in or near a squatter’s camp on the property before spreading, Basque said.

Company owners have been trying to evict the man - a former employee who has lived there for years - from the property, Basque said.

The fire destroyed two trailer containers and damaged two others. One of the trailers held wine barrels, which provided further fuel for the fire, Basque said. The fire also burned two vehicles and much of the squatter’s property.
