Healdsburg traffic stop leads to suspected child endangerment, DUI arrest

Healdsburg police Sunday night arrested a man suspected of drunken driving, child endangerment and trying to run from police while carrying his young son in his arms, according to a Healdsburg police news release.

Driver Sean Warner, 40, was stopped just after 9 p.m. for a traffic violation by Sgt. Luis Rodriguez who noticed that a young boy in a safety seat in the vehicle wasn’t secured and that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, according to police.

Asked to get out of his car for sobriety tests, the Healdsburg man grabbed the child and tried to run, police said. Officer Craig Smith, who’d responded to the stop, took the child from the man’s arms.

Warner was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, resisting arrest, felony child endangerment and violating his probation from a prior DUI conviction, Rodriguez said.

The child was given to his mother. Warner remained in the Sonoma County Jail Monday morning in lieu of $11,000 bail.
