The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a lethal Kelseyville home invasion shooting as David Sheldon Shalett, 34.

Shalett was at home with his two children, ages 8 and 10, when he was killed early Wednesday morning, sheriff’s authorities said. The children witnessed the apparent shooting, authorities said, and are staying with family.

“I don’t know that they really knew the extent of what happened,” Sgt. John Gregore said of the children. “But they were doing as well as could be expected the night we talked to them.”

The suspects, who Gregore said have no known connection to Shalett, stole a small amount of marijuana during the robbery. Deputies were notified of the home invasion and shooting at about ?3:25 a.m.

When deputies arrived at the State Street home, they found Shalett dead of an apparent gunshot wound. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Two people of interest remain at large. One was described as male, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and was last seen running from the residence wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt. No description was yet available for the second suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gregore at 707-262-4238 or john.gregore@lakecountyca.gov.

Anyone with surveillance video that might have captured something that night in the area of Gaddy Lane or State Street is asked to contact Detective Shamus Stafford at ?707-262-4231.
