A 61-year-old driver and his 9-year-old passenger were injured Saturday evening when their car crashed into a tree off River Road near Sunset Beach in Forestville, emergency personnel said.

The accident occurred just after 7 p.m., when the eastbound Honda Civic left the roadway just west of the county beach, authorities said.

A door on the car had to be cut off to remove the two people inside, said Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman.

Both were taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with minor-to-moderate injuries, the CHP said.

The names of the people involved were not immediately available, authorities said.
