CHP: Driver crashes near Duncans Mills, flees

A driver was nowhere to be found when authorities arrived on the scene of his crashed vehicle near Duncans Mills early Thursday.|

A Honda Accord went off the road on Highway 116 west of Duncans Mills, rolled over and ended up back on its wheels 30 feet off the road Thursday morning.

The car was found empty at 6:15 a.m. between Moscow Road and Highway 1 with the keys taken from the ignition, Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman said.

Emergency crews searched the area but found no one. There were no skid marks on the road, meaning the driver likely fell asleep at the wheel, Baxman said.

“Typically when someone leaves a scene like this it’s because they were driving under the influence,” Baxman said.

The CHP will run the vehicle registration to determine who was driving the car, he said.
