A CHP sergeant was injured Thursday afternoon when he was knocked off his motorcycle while evading a vehicle changing lanes in front of him on Highway 101 in Santa Rosa, the agency said.

Sgt. John Evans was southbound on the freeway south of Bicentennial Drive about 4:15 p.m. when he had to take evasive action, Officer Jon Sloat said.

Evans’ motorcycle collided with another vehicle, knocking him to the pavement, Sloat said.

Southbound traffic quickly backed up as numerous emergency vehicles and CHP units responded to the scene.

Evans was alert and complained of minor injuries, and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
