Four arrested on suspicion of DUI in Sebastopol

There was something in the air last night in Sebastopol, where police arrested four people on suspicion of driving under the influence, three of them booked into Sonoma County Jail.

"That's a busy night. It's not uncommon for us to get one DUI, and occasionally we'll come up with two," said Sebastopol Police Sgt. Greg Devore. Four arrests is out of the ordinary for Sebastopol, he said.

The arrests began at 9:20 p.m., when police stopped a driver after he allegedly almost hit a pedestrian in downtown Sebastopol.

Police said the man, identified as Jared Carnes, 32, of Santa Rosa, appeared intoxicated and subsequently failed a DUI test. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI, cited and released.

Then, shortly after 10 p.m., the same officer noticed another vehicle speeding through the downtown area. The officer stopped the driver, identified as Sara LaCount, 22, of Sebastopol. Police said LaCount failed a DUI test and was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of DUI.

Four hours later, another officer noticed a vehicle traveling 10 mph before it drove through a red light. The driver, identified as Rolando Cruz Rodriguez, 36, of Fairfax, appeared severely intoxicated, police said.

Cruz failed a sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license. Police said it was his third DUI arrest. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.

While Cruz was being arrested, police saw another vehicle drive by at a high rate of speed. Police caught up to the driver, identified as Spencer Pollock, 24, of San Francisco, and noticed that he too appeared to be under the influence. Pollack failed a sobriety test and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

It was unclear Saturday morning why Carnes was the only person who was not booked into jail, and Sgt. Devore said he didn't immediately know why there were so many DUI arrests last night.

"We've got a fantastic night crew and they take it to heart trying to keep these streets safe," he said.

Another person was arrested Friday night for driving while unlicensed.
