Fire destroyed a two-story home in the outskirts of Sebastopol on Thursday evening, filling the house with flames before fire crews could get to the scene.

The cause of the Burgundy Way blaze was unknown and the charred remains too unstable for investigators to enter immediately, Gold Ridge Fire Battalion Chief Darrin DeCarli said.

“At this point, cause is undetermined,” he said. “We’re going to be out here for a while, mopping this thing up.”

The first alarm was sounded shortly after 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Everyone got out safely, but the house, two stories with a basement, was a total loss, DeCarli said.

Burgundy Way is off Grandview Road, between Bodega Highway and Cherry Ridge Road.
