Willits woman dies in Hwy. 20 crash

Two Monday crashes, including one fatal, slowed traffic on the rural highway.|

A Willits woman died Monday in a crash off Highway 20 when her vehicle rolled down a hillside and crashed into a tree, according to the CHP.

Nannette Williams, 42, was westbound on the rural highway near Irmulco Road not far from Willits, when her 2001 Toyota 4Runner left the road, rolled down the hill and ended upside down against the tree, according to the CHP.

The crash was reported at 1:50 p.m. Authorities said she died in the crash.

CHP officers Tuesday returned to the site and were working on the cause.

At the other end of Highway 20, which connects Willits to Fort Bragg, a second crash Monday closed the coast end for hours when a truck hauling scrap metal overturned and scattered metal across the lanes. The crash happened about three miles east of Highway 1 and closed the Mendocino County highway in both directions from about 11:45 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

No one was injured in that crash.
