A Friday morning motorcycle accident on Highway 101 near downtown Santa Rosa left one man with major injuries and stalled northbound traffic for 40 minutes, the California Highway Patrol said.

The accident was first reported at 7:43 a.m. with a report of a motorcyclist down near the Highway 101 3rd Street offramp, just north of Highway 12.

The crash may have caused a separate two-vehicle accident in the immediate vicinity, said CHP Officer Steve Fricke.

Fricke said CHP units are currently investigating the crash and few details were available. The motorcyclist, who was riding a Harley Davidson and crashed with a Ford Ranger, was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries.

The accident forced the closure of the northbound carpool and middle lanes between 7:43 a.m. and 8:23 a.m., Fricke said.

The CHP is still investigating the cause of both crashes.
