A resident was assaulted and left unconscious in a west Santa Rosa home invasion Sunday morning in what police think may have been a cannabis-related incident.

The resident in the 3700 block of Golden Gate Avenue was awakened by loud knocking. Three or four people at the front door forced themselves inside and demanded money, the Santa Rosa police said in a statement. One of the suspects wore a shirt with the word “sheriff” on the front.

The victim was assaulted and lost consciousness, but it’s not known if he was knocked out or passed out, police said. When he came to, the suspects had left the house.

A second resident fled after hearing the suspects enter the home, police said. A mother and child who also live in the house, were home during the robbery but were undetected.

At least one resident grew cannabis at the home but it had been harvested at the time of the robbery, police said. Marijuana is thought to be the motivation of the home invasion, but it’s unclear if anything was stolen.

Santa Rosa police are asking anyone with information to call 707-543-3590.
