Mountain lion caught on security camera in Windsor neighborhood

A Windsor resident recently installed a security camera to monitor for potential burglars, a prowler of a different kind made an appearance.|

A mountain lion was caught on camera taking a stroll through the Cross Creek neighborhood in Windsor around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The security camera belongs to Triant Varellas, who said he bought it after a theft in front of his home. "We had anticipated identifying a 'prowler' however, never expected to see one of the literal sense," he said.

Varellas said that as far as he knew, this was the first time a mountain lion has appeared on his street.

"It was a shocking surprise," Varellas said. "In light of the firestorm in October it serves as a reminder of things once thought to be impossible as now very real and plausible. Just as the fires had rolled through urban development, it would be foolish to think animals in a nearby habitat would easily be able to do the same."
