Santa Rosa police were investigating a shooting Saturday evening that injured a man outside a Corby Avenue apartment complex where two people were reported shot a week ago. The gunman was still at large late Saturday, police said. No motive or description of the suspect was provided.

The latest shooting occurred in the northeast corner of the Sonoma Court apartments, on the 2300 block of Corby, shortly before 6 p.m., according to witnesses and police officials.

Santa Rosa Police Lt. Ryan Corcoran, who was at the apartment building Saturday night, said either a victim or a witness “went to the 7-Eleven” a few blocks north of the apartments.

A cashier at the ?7-Eleven, who declined to give his name, said he saw a man bleeding from his face and head sitting in a dark-colored Porsche with its windows shot out.

“He had blood on his face,” the cashier said. “He was calling for help.”

The cashier said he called 911 at about 6 p.m. and soon after, police officers and an ambulance arrived. A REDCOM dispatcher said a shooting victim was taken to a local hospital.

As police officers conducted a sweep of the area in and around the apartment complex, many residents were prevented from entering their apartment units near the northeast end of the complex. Some reported hearing three to four gunshots at about ?6 p.m.

One resident, who also declined to give his name, said he heard a shot fired in the same location at the apartment complex a week ago.

In the incident reported by police last Saturday, two people were struck by gunfire in the legs and feet in an attack outside the apartments, which sit several blocks north of Hearn Avenue. The victims, a 28-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, sought refuge in the apartment of a stranger, and later refused to cooperate with investigators, according to a police sergeant. Their names were withheld and no arrests were reported.

During their investigation into the latest shooting, police detained a man and a woman at the apartment complex but would not say how they were linked, if at all, to the shooting.

“The victim was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound,” Corcoran said, standing near the shooting scene about 2½ hours after the gunshots were reported. “The suspect is still outstanding. We just conducted a search of the area here.”

Corcoran said investigators with the Santa Rosa violent crimes unit would be taking over the case. No other information was available Saturday night.
