Petaluma driver suspected of DUI after car ends up in front yard

A Petaluma man who drove his car right up onto someone's lawn and was attempting to back out when police were called was arrested for suspected drunken driving late Saturday afternoon, police said.

Richard Meyer, 50, was on probation for a previous drunken driving case when he lost control of his vehicle on eastbound Baywood Drive around 5:50 p.m. Saturday and ended up in the front yard of a south Petaluma residence near St. Francis Drive, police said.

He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for suspected drunken driving and for violation of probation, authorities said.

Meyer spent the night in jail and was released Sunday after posting $50,000 bail, jail personnel said.

No one was injured, and no other vehicles or structures were struck in the incident, police said.
