An Election Day polling precinct at the Schellville fire station relocated Tuesday afternoon when a large fire broke out nearby, forcing an evacuation of the area.

The polling place was at the Schell-Vista fire station at 23000 Broadway, close to a Fremont Drive wooden pallet factory that caught fire around 12:30 p.m. Poll workers packed up and moved to the Sonoma Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 20575 Broadway, where a polling place already was operating.

Sandwich boards were being set out at street corners to alert voters to the new location, an election official said.

“We’re taking every step possible to make sure that voters have a place to vote,” Sonoma County Clerk Bill Rousseau said.
