The CHP is investigating a motorcycle crash that killed a rider Monday night on Highway 101 north of Willits.

The rider was Willits resident Michael Shaw, 69, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.

Shaw was riding south on the highway near Underpass Road when his Suzuki veered off the lane, the CHP said. The bike ran down an embankment and hit a tree.

The man’s body was found Monday just before 8 p.m. What time he crashed wasn’t known, the CHP said.

An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
