Rohnert Park sketch leads to assault arrest

A police sketch artist’s drawing released to the public this week quickly brought in tips that led to the arrest of a 44-year-old transient on suspicion of assault with intent to commit a sex crime in Rohnert Park.

Mathew Madrid was booked into the Sonoma County Jail early Wednesday after a girl picked his image out of a group of photos and said he was the man who chased her last month while she was walking on Camino Colegio.

On Monday Rohnert Park police released the sketch based upon the girl’s recollection of her pursuer. The department soon received tips about Madrid from citizens and other local law enforcement agencies.

Madrid, who is from Santa Rosa but frequents Rohnert Park, “had a documented history of harassing women and making statements about wanting to harm children,” according to a police press release.

Madrid was held on $50,000 bail.
