Windsor fire officials are investigating the cause of a garage fire that damaged a single-?story home and displaced four residents on Mirna Court in Windsor early Saturday.

The residents of the home, which is located off of Arata Lane in north Windsor, were stirred from sleep by a smoke alarm at about 5:40 a.m., said Battalion Chief Ron Busch of the Rincon Valley and Windsor fire protection districts.

Busch said four adults and two dogs lived in the home, but no one was injured. Healdsburg firefighters also assisted in battling the blaze.

“A working smoke detector alerted the occupants - that’s key here,” Busch said.

He said the fire was contained by about 6:10 a.m. and completely destroyed the garage. Firefighters had to pull down some of the ceiling inside the home.

The fire caused heat and smoke damage and left the home uninhabitable, Busch said. He estimated the cost of damage at about $150,000.

Red Cross and Pacific Gas & Electric crews assisted the residents.
