Scuba diver found dead at Salt Point ID’d

A 51-year-old man died at Gerstle Cove in Salt Point State Park on Saturday afternoon.|

A scuba diver who died at Gerstle Cove in Salt Point State Park has been identified.

Mark Alcott, 51, from the Fremont area, died Saturday afternoon when he suffered some type of medical distress, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Lt. Ruben Martinez said.

Alcott was with his diving partner, who swam to assist him. However, Alcott sank out of sign in about 30 to 50 feet of water. Rescue personnel found Alcott at 3:32 p.m. Saturday, an hour after they were called, sheriff’s officials said.

The cause of death is still unknown, Martinez said. An autopsy will be performed within the coming days.
