Dangerous surf conditions forecast for Sonoma Coast

In the wake of tropical storms Hilary and Irwin, wave heights along the Sonoma Coast could reach nine feet, the National Weather Service said.|

Beachgoers should take extra caution in the coming days as a southerly swell generated by tropical storms Hilary and Irwin makes its way to the Sonoma Coast.

Dangerous conditions in the forecast prompted the National Weather Service to issue a beach hazard alert stretching from Sonoma County to Monterey County, in effect from 11 p.m. Sunday to 11 p.m. Monday. The storms could bring strong rip currents, sneaker waves and surf heights between 7 and 9 feet, the weather service said.
