Wrong-way Highway 101 crash kills Windsor man; driver suspected of DUI

A wrong-way motorist suspected of driving while intoxicated on Highway 101 was involved in a collision north of Santa Rosa early Friday morning that triggered another crash that killed a Windsor motorcyclist and injured two other people, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Just after midnight on Friday, Sherry Risch, 53, of Sonoma County, began driving south on the northbound side of Highway 101 at Healdsburg Avenue, the CHP said.

Within three minutes, at ?12:11 a.m., Risch, driving a ?2005 Kia Rio, had crashed into the left side of an oncoming 2001 Honda Odyssey, the CHP said. The crash occurred on Highway 101 near Airport Boulevard south of Windsor.

Three minutes later, at ?12:14 a.m., callers reported that a man riding a 2016 BMW motorcycle struck the Kia Rio and was ejected from his bike. The man, identified as Daniel Adams, 56, died from his injuries.

Risch was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. CHP officials said she showed signs of drug intoxication and was later arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while under the influence of drugs, officials said.

The driver of the Odyssey, Phim Kho, 44, of San Francisco was transported to Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. His passenger, Yu Kwong, 59, of San Francisco, was taken to Memorial Hospital with major injuries that required immediate surgery.

The crashes closed northbound Highway 101 for about ?four hours. It was reopened at ?4:37 a.m.
