Santa Rosa man, 23, critically wounded in gang-related shooting

The victim tried to flee but was shot once through the window of his car, according to authorities, who called it an 'isolated incident of gang violence.'|

A 23-year-old man was critically injured early Saturday in a gang-related shooting in southwest Santa Rosa, police said.

About 12:43 a.m., multiple callers reported gunshots in the 2800 block of Dutton Meadow, where Santa Rosa police found a man with one gunshot wound to his upper body. The victim, identified only as a 23-year old Santa Rosa resident, was transported to an unidentified hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

Lt. John Cregan said the victim remained in critical condition Saturday afternoon and was in a medically-induced coma.

Santa Rosa police detectives found the victim was confronted on Dutton Meadow by an unknown assailant. The victim tried to flee but was shot once through the window of his car, according to Cregan, who described the shooting as an 'isolated incident of gang violence.'

Police are offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects involved in the shooting. Anyone with information can call the Santa Rosa Police Department's gang crimes investigation team at 707-543-3670.
