Sonoma County Animal Services officers are seeking information in the death of a Chihuahua puppy, found strangled inside a backpack in southwest Santa Rosa.

The tan and white Chihuahua mix was a female about 8 months old. She was found about 3:15 p.m. July 27 on the side of Todd Road near Stony Point Road, officials said in a statement Wednesday.

The pup was inside a black “Outdoor Products” backpack with red straps. The dog also had a black leash.

A veterinarian determined the dog was strangled and died of asphyxiation, officials said. They urged anyone with information to contact Sonoma County Animal Services at 707-565-7100.
