Snell fire in Napa County fully contained at 2,490 acres

The Snell fire in northern Napa County is now fully contained, Cal Fire announced Saturday, one week after the blaze ignited and threatened homes near Lake Berryessa’s northwestern edge.

The fire burned ?2,490 acres in a remote area about 7 miles southeast of Middletown. About ?180 homes in the Berryessa Estates area were ?initially threatened, prompting evacuation orders last weekend, but those were lifted Monday.

No structures were damaged or destroyed by the fire and no one was injured. The cause is still under investigation.

Fire crews planned to continue patrolling and mopping up the blaze overnight, keeping an eye out for any remaining hot spots, Cal Fire said Saturday evening.

Fires have threatened homes in the Lake Berryessa area multiple times this year, starting earlier this summer with the County fire, which burned more than 90,000 acres and destroyed 20 structures. The smaller Steele fire later burned 135 acres, destroyed eight structures and damaged four.
